Google should really pay more attention to Blogger
Filed in archive Spam News on March 19, 2007
Although we already knew that there is a vast number of splogs (or spam blogs) in the Blogger universe, security experts warn that the situation might be getting out of control. Apart from advertising Vi@gra, hedge funds and Mortgages, providing high rank links and having no connection between blog names and content, some splogs are even malicious.
Techworld writes:
"Fortinet gives examples of the sites, including one for a supposed fan of the Honda CR450 motor car, which attempts to infect visitors with the Wonka Trojan. In another, the fake blog redirects visitors to a store front purporting to be Pharmacy Express, a phishing site that has turned up in many spam emails distributed by the Stration worm."
And this is not nearly the whole ordeal. Some of the nasty splogs manage to download a 1x1 pixel to track sensitive user information.
Google says those blogs are not legit and that the company is investigating. Until we are sure Google has managed to make Blogger safe, reconsider staying away from the whole Blogger community, or visit only those blogs which you know are OK, as none of the legitimate blogs seem to be hijacked.
