Google Spams Adsense Members

Filed in archive Spam News by Sue Walsh on May 14, 2008

Google had to make a hasty apology after it inadvertently spammed its Adsense members. The gaff happened when they sent a mass email out to them asking them to agree to the new terms and conditions released in February. Problem is, most of the recipients of the email had already done so, prompting a flood of complaints. Google issued this statement in response:
Our team sent an email today with the subject line "Important Account Information", which was a reminder to accept the February changes to the Terms and Conditions. However, we have found that we sent the email to a number of publishers who already agreed to the new terms. We apologize for the confusion caused, and in the next few days we will be sending another message to publishers who received today's email in error.

This isn't the first time Google has made a mass email mistake like this. Last November they sent out another mass email asking members to update their tax info, prompting fears of a phishing attack. The email should have gone to only a select few-instead it went to everyone who had already updated the requested info.
