Project Gutenberg spam

Project Gutenberg spam

As Google Operating System blog reports, there's new spam circulating around:

A new breed of spam hit my mail box. They aren't the usual mails that claim they'll help solve your medical problems or win a lot of money. Not at all: they contain excerpts from famous books. I could read texts from Stendhal, Galsworthy and they are very good.

At the end there's, like in any good spam message, an offer to buy stock. This way, spammers think, they both contribute to your knowledge base as well as your portfolio.

As commenters to this post noticed, this is just a variation of a theme, since some years ago similar e-mails, but with Bible quotes, hit people's mailboxes.

  1. High brow spam :)

I have received some of this and wondered why they send it.

  2. Well. maybe spammers all around the world have decided to make each and every person on the globe, who posseses an e-mail address, read at least one of the classics of literature. Nah.
