Skype Hit By Hackers Again

Skype Hit By Hackers Again

For the second time in just over a month, hackers have hit Skype. This time they are distributing a piece of malware called "Skype Defender". It's being distributed almost exactly like the previous bug and tricks users into installing it. What's particularly disturbing about the trojan-PWS-Pykse is that it is designed to steal passwords and screen names. Users are presented with a plug in confirmation window that says:

"Skype Defender Installed! Please login to apply new plugins"

When unsuspecting users click okay they are brought to a fake login screen. After they input their login info, they get a screen saying their details are invalid, while behind the scenes they are being sent to the hackers.

Skype is telling users to simply delete the 65404-SkypeDefenderSetup.exe file and says it has notified all of the major anti-virus companies. This latest attack is sure to raise even more questions about Skype's security measures-or lack thereof.
