Study Claims Malware Infections Are Growing
Filed in archive Malware on November 4, 2007
According to a report on PCWorld.com, U.K. security vendor Prevx is claiming a recent study of 300,000 PCs revealed that over 15% of them had at least one spyware or malware program installed. These programs include keyboard loggers, information stealers, and fake anti-spyware programs. Not surprisingly, the systems with no security software installed had a 60% higher infection rate than those systems with security software. The study also revealed that of the business users who run Prevx's free security scan, 59.5% find at least one infected computer in their company. Prevx claims that the major security vendors (Microsoft, symantec and Trend Micro) can't keep up with malware writers and that their ability to detect newly released malware is only 10 to 50%.
