Spam
by Dameon Welch-Abemathy on November 14, 2007
Do you realize that 96% of all email is SPAM? That means for every 25 emails you receive, only one of them is a real email. At least that's what Ken Rutkowski, host of KenRadio's World Technology Roundup is saying. In this brief video, Ken highlights a few tools that can be used to filter the spam from your inbox.
Meanwhile, I present an alternative to email that came up in my conversation with Jonathan Christensen at Skype: persistent chat windows. Jonathan does not check email first thing in the morning, he checks his Skype to see what chats had activity overnight. He can then go through all the chat windows to find the ones that had activity and respond as appropriate.
It's a clever idea, actually. All the information is right there, in context. Spam is a non-issue since you can easily block those that do. It might be a while before I can work like this, but it has a certain appeal.
